Master Alloys for Superalloys
Master alloys for superalloys are pre-alloyed materials developed to overcome challenges associated with the direct addition of refractory elements—such as tungsten, molybdenum, and niobium—including their high melting points, segregation tendency, and elemental loss. Based on nickel-, cobalt-, or iron-based systems, these master alloys incorporate high concentrations of reactive or refractory elements into homogeneous low-melting phases. This approach enables precise composition control during superalloy melting, reduces impurity pickup, and significantly improves the uniformity of ingot solidification structures and the consistency of material properties.
